Join the Washington Foreign Law Society (WFLS) on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM ET for a stimulating hour-long panel discussion on the Hot Topics in AI including the implications for the legal profession, the status of the EU and US regulation of AI and other topics, featuring Dessislav Dobrev, Senior Counsel at the World Bank Group, Adjunct Professor on AI at McGill Law School and member of the New York State Bar Association’s Task Force on Artificial Intelligence, and Vitaliy Goncharuk, CEO and founder of 12New.ai, an AI company, former Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee of Ukraine and a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence at the Council of Europe.

Panelists:

Dessislav Dobrev is a leading expert in artificial intelligence and the law and has spearheaded AI matters in both academia and practice. His recent book Artificial Intelligence and the Law: A Comprehensive Guide for the Legal Profession, Academia and Society, published by Thomson Reuters, has been endorsed by high-profile academics, leading law practitioners and global AI leaders. This timely volume is one of the first comprehensive studies of how AI will dramatically affect the law, both as a profession and a regulatory domain, as well as society at large. As an Adjunct Professor Dessislav created and taught new law school courses on AI at McGill Law School, has previously taught at Georgetown Law School, and has provided seminars on AI at other leading institutions such as the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology and the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law.  In addition, Dessislav served on the New York State Bar Association’s Task Force on Artificial Intelligence.  The task force was dedicated to identifying potential benefits, dangers, and opportunities surrounding AI and to make regulatory recommendations for how to manage and integrate the technology in legal practice. Mr. Dobrev was educated and has practiced law in both civil and common law jurisdictions and has worked in both public and private sector contexts. He is currently a Senior Counsel at the World Bank Group, where he is exposed to AI issues at the global level. Previously, he practiced corporate law at Davis Polk in New York. 

Vitaliy Goncharuk is the CEO and founder of 12New.ai, an AI company providing solutions for enterprise and government clients.  He previously founded Augmented Pixels, an autonomy navigation company for drones and robots, acquired by Qualcomm in 2022. He has several public roles as well, including AI Officer at the Harvard Business School DC Club and adviser on innovation programs like Horizon Europe and EIC Accelerator. He was Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee of Ukraine and a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence at the Council of Europe.

Moderator

Alexandra Bochnakova is the President of the Washington Foreign Law Society. She is an international lawyer educated and licensed in France and in the United States. She is currently working as Corporate and International Counsel at the Office of General Counsel at Finca Impact Finance, Washington DC, a microfinance institution with over 15 subsidiaries in emerging nations. Previously, she was Head of Corporate Affairs and Corporate Secretary of the Board of Directors of the holding, at Pierre Fabre Group, France, working on corporate and regulatory matters with nearly one hundred companies of the Group in France and worldwide. Prior to that, and for over 12 years, she was the founding partner of SELAS Bochnakova, a boutique law firm focused on international law and cross-border matters. In parallel, she was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toulouse 1 Capitole and ESICAD Business School in Toulouse, France.
